3 must eat places in Traverse City
There is something about being a traveler in your own state that grows your appreciation of what’s already there. And when you do it often, you start to find your “go'-to” spots of your favorite activities and for me, that always means food at its highest priority.
We’ve been driving to Traverse City for years now for weekend getaways usually to celebrate an anniversary. Lake Michigan, the air, countless hikes, and over the years, even the food has surprised us. In recent years, we make every attempt to not skip these three places we love.
Farm Club
Think seasonal eating with 90% of herbs and vegetables coming straight from their farm. That is impressive. And if you think vegetables are boring or not hearty, I know you will change your mind after dining here. (Don’t worry, there are meat dishes here too for meat eaters!)
The food and the grounds are beautiful. While the plating of each dish is impeccable, the vibe is relaxing and not stuffy. Easy and comfortable atmosphere is a must for me. And, eating family style is my favorite style.

Bubbie’s Bagels
Leo and I recently discovered this spot on our last trip so this is only our second time at Bubbie’s and it’s only because bagels are something I never, ever crave or eat. I do not like them. It has made me feel bloated, feel too full, and just not tasty. Except for Bubbie’s.
At Bubbie’s, they use the old fashion way of making their bagels. We get the Bubbie’s Garden on Za'atar bagel (!!!) and Super Nova on everything.
Bagels are crisp, chewy, flavorful and all the ingredients on our sandwiches were fresh and plentiful. I mean, look at the dill! Get two and share half and half.
Hexenbelle
It’s vegetarian heaven, an Arabic comfort food, Halal, it’s perfect. This past time was maybe our seventh time going there, three of those time being on one single alone. I was excited to introduce this place to our family.
My mother in law who is not into vegetarian dishes and is the kind of person who must eat meat daily was skeptical I could tell. But, the moment she had a small spoonful of her coconut curry fried rice, she was a believer. She was surprised at how flavorful and filling it was, even without meat.
It’s hard to say what my favorite dish here is, but Labneh and pita is a must. You really can’t stop eating it.
staycations as vacations
The northern part Michigan has been a breath of fresh air for us.
As an adventurer who is always wanting to travel far and wide, seasons when resources are limited or when you want a quick getaway, finding a space that’s close to home can be a gift and sometimes,
more than enough to refresh.
